About UNtanked

UNtanked is a unique virtual saltwater aquarium created to show tropical reef life as it behaves naturally—without a human camera operator in the scene and without removing fish from the ocean.

Why it started

UNtanked began as an effort to lessen demand for traditional saltwater aquariums by showing tropical fish on living reefs without human presence. The goal is to let people enjoy the beauty and behavior of marine life while reducing pressure associated with fish collection.

How the footage is created

Divers obtain required permits, prepare a special underwater stage and leave the area. The system records reef life interacting naturally. The finished experience is produced in 4K Ultra High Definition.
